Handel's Messiah

April 15 & 16, 2006
Evening Concerts—7 PM

Who:
and Where:
Triadelphia Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Clarksville, MD and
Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bowie, MD will present
What:   the 2nd and 3rd parts of Handel's Messiah
When:   at Easter time. The concerts will be in the evenings at Triadelphia on Sabbath (Saturday), April 15, and at Trinity Lutheran on Sunday, April 16.

We plan to perform with a small orchestra using Handel's original orchestration.

You are invited to sing with us.

How:   Three steps:
  1. Send a note to me so that I'll know you are interested. Please tell me what part you sing.
  2. Subscribe to our mailing list using the Google box below. (See the Stay Informed paragraph for my promises regarding this mailing list.)
  3. Show up at rehearsals. See this page for a rehearsal schedule. If these rehearsals are too far away from you, please tell me! I will consider holding rehearsals nearer to your home.
Recruit:

When you meet potential singers, please encourage them to visit this page and to sign up!

Details:

We have a working schedule.

You may purchase your own copy of the music. (However, their optional cheap-but-slow shipping really can take 3 weeks: I recommend one of their faster shipping options.)

We are studying from the following recordings:
(These recordings are each available from iTunes for slightly less than $20 apiece.)
  Christopher Hogwood -
reasonably priced
  Handel: Messiah
John Eliot Gardiner -
out of print and expensive
  Handel: Messiah
Sir Georg Solti -
pitched at modern pitch (A=440Hz)
  Handel: Messiah

You can purchase recordings in which your part is louder than the others.

Also, this page provides free recordings in which the parts are played on a synthesizer. While it may not be as useful as hearing your part sung by a human voice, this can still be a valuable way to study.

If the rehearsal times or places are too inconvenient for you, please tell me. My goal is to make it possible for you to take part in this music.
